Logan Community Visitors Scheme (LCVS) is supported by the Australian Federal Government and the Department of Health and matches volunteers (community visitors) with older people in nursing homes who are or may be at risk of being socially isolated or disconnected.
Often an older person goes into an aged care home due to necessity, not by choice. Leaving their family at home can lead to them feeling alone and depressed. In some cases, an older person may end up in a home that wasn’t their first choice, meaning more distance between their family and friends.
Thousands of elderly Australians living in homes are enduring isolation, sadness and depression.
A couple of hours of your time can greatly contribute to an older person’s happiness, help them feel connected and fulfilled. A small investment from you makes a world of difference to them.
LCVS takes great care in matching our community visitors to an older person. We will work with you to find a convenient home for you to visit, and we can also match you with someone who has similar interests, cultural backgrounds and specific languages if required.
If you would like to volunteer as a community visitor, please email reception@lacota.org or phone 07 3290 0088 and register your interest. We will call to discuss your opportunity and send you all the necessary information.
If successful with your application, we will:
Just a small amount of your time can make a huge impact on someone living in residential care and change their quality of life.
