Logan Area Committee on the Ageing (L.A.C.O.T.A) in Logan aims to make a positive difference in the lives of local seniors.
The Community Visitors Scheme provides not-for-profit organisations with the resources to source appropriate volunteers to become friends with these elderly people. This communication and sense of community is much appreciated.
The Community Visitors Scheme arranges volunteers from the community to visit selected residents on a regular, one-on-one basis. The volunteer is asked to provide one hour a fortnight of time and companionship for their resident friend.
The Community Visitors Scheme is a Federal Government initiative that was implemented to improve the lives of elderly residents in aged care homes who have been identified as lonely and socially isolated through a lack of visitors.
